SPIEF Forum in St. Petersburg

B20 participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum held in St. Petersburg, Russia on May 24-25th.

B20 Chair Daniel Funes de Rioja was present at the SPIEF Forum in St. Petersburg where he participated in the B20 Regional Consultation Forum co-organized with the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) and the International Organisation of Employers (IOE). He was present in panels on digitalization, employment, finance and an event with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Digitalization panel addressed the importance of ensuring that the digital transformation becomes a driving force behind growth that is global, innovative, inclusive, and sustainable.

“Governments need to upgrade education systems to align with tomorrow’s labor market needs, strengthen key skills such as digital and social skills” stated Daniel Funes de Rioja

The second panel focused on the future of labor markets and included Bruno Berthon (Global Managing Director, Digital Strategy Lead, Accenture), Erol Kiresepi (President, International Organisation of Employers), Annemarie Muntz (President, World Employment Confederation; Director Group Public Affairs, Randstad Holding), Renate Hornung-Draus (Managing Director, Confederation of German Employers’ Associations (BDA) and David Iakobachvili (President, Orion Heritage), among others.

“Societies, economies and labour markets have changed considerably, but not so regulatory frameworks. If we don`t want to create huge cohorts of workers outside the formal labour market, we need to be brave and bring labour market regulations into 21 century reality” said Daniel Funes de Rioja

He was also present in the panel on “Banking and Finance in the Emerging Markets: Version 2.0”, which focused on the financial and banking systems of emerging economies and the possibility of them playing a more vocal role in the global economy.

On the 25th of May, the B20 Chair was present at the “Leading CEOs with President of Russia” event with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he gave a brief speech.
