B20 held the Sustainable Food System Meeting in Buenos Aires on July 26th
The meeting was hosted by the Argentine Rural Society (SRA) and Copal and focused on outlining the B20 recommendations for a Sustainable Food Future that will be presented to G20.
The event was opened by B20 Chair Daniel Funes de Rioja, G20 Ambassador Pablo Tettamanti, Luis Pagani (SFS Chair and Arcor President), Juan José Griguera Naón (Director of the Economic Studies and International Negotiations Institute at SRA) in representation of Daniel Pelegrina (B20 SFS Co-Chair and SRA President).
“The B20´s vision and aim is to arrive at final documents with concrete recommendations that can be implemented and followed-through. Working together with G20 will help us reach this goal” stated Daniel Funes de Rioja.
The first panel focused on “B20 Sustainable Food recommendations to the G20” and featured Miguel Kozuszok (Sustainable Food System Co-Chair and Latam President at Unilever), Phil O´Reilly (Sustainable Food System Co-Chair and BIAC Chair), Francisco Lugano (AACREA President) and was moderated by Cecilia Rena (SFS Deputy Chair and Public Affairs & Press Relations Corporate Manager at Arcor).
“Now is the time for companies to become part of the world dialogue and put forward actionable recommendations,” said Phil O´Reilly.
The second panel, focused on “G20 representatives´responses to the B20” and included Santiago del Solar Dorrego (Chief of Staff at the Ministry of Agroindustry), Eduardo Tempone (G20 Trade Working Group), Clara Zerbino (G20 Health Working Group) and moderator Fernando Landa (B20 policy sherpa).
“Technologies are essential for a sustainable food future, we must help producers access the best innovations,” stated Santiago del Solar.
The last panel addressed the “Engagement Groups´ joint agenda for a Sustainable Food Future” and featured engagement group members Martín Piñeiro (T20) and Eduardo Bianchi (S20).
Luis Pagani brought the event to a close: “We would like you to share the work of our Task Force, reflected in the policy paper, with relevant local, national and international institutions so that we can make concrete and significant advances in the bettering of people´s lives and eliminate hunger and poverty, to achieve the goals set by sustainable development 2030”.
The task force members and government representatives held a cocktail meeting on wednesday night as a prelude to the Sustainable Food System meeting and were invited to a guided visit to SRA´s 2018 Rural Exhibition accompanied by B20 members on Friday morning.
